What is X-on?
X-on is an AI-powered dictation tool that assists healthcare professionals in creating clinical documentation, such as notes and referral documents, after your consultation. This helps ensure that your medical information is recorded accurately and efficiently.
How Does X-on Work?
- GP Dictation: After your consultation, your GP will use it to dictate notes into the system, describing the key aspects of your visit, diagnoses, and any required referrals.
- AI Processing: The system uses AI to transcribe the spoken dictation into text, which your doctor reviews and finalises.
Why are AI Scribes used in GP practice?
- Improved Accuracy: The system helps your GP document your care accurately and efficiently, reducing the chance of errors.
- Efficiency: Streamlines the creation of notes and referring you for more care.
Allowing your doctor or nurse to spend more time on patient care. - More Time for Your Care: With streamlined documentation, your doctor can focus more on your needs during consultations.
- Consistent Record Keeping: Helps maintain accurate and detailed records of
your care.
Limitations and Potential Issues
- Transcription Accuracy: Whilst highly accurate, the AI may occasionally misinterpret medical terms or nuances from the dictation. This is why the clinician reviews and corrects the transcribed notes.
Information Governance and Privacy
We take your privacy and data protection extremely seriously. The AI Scribe tools we are trialling:
- Are fully GDPR-compliant
- Are approved for use within the NHS
- Only record and process information with strict safeguards in place.
- Securely transcribe and then delete any audio recordings after use
- Have been pre-approved for use by our Data Protection Officer.
Only necessary and relevant parts of your consultation are processed, and these tools do not store or share your data for any other purpose outside of clinical care.

If you would prefer your clinician not to use X-on to help them write their notes, please do let them know (either via Reception before your appointment or at the start of your appointment) and they can make sure it is not activated for your consultation.
