Please note that from 1 June 2026, GP Practices will no longer be able to accept sharps bins for disposal. This change applies to all GP Practices across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Under NHS England guidance, sharps waste from patients must now be disposed of through participating community pharmacies or local council collection services, rather than through GP Practices.
What you need to do
- Yellow-lidded sharps bins
Sealed yellow-lidded sharps bins can be returned to participating community pharmacies.
Kelling Pharmacy continues to accept yellow-lidded sharps bins. Other pharmacies across Norfolk also provide this service.
A full list of participating pharmacies can be found here: https://communitydirectory.norfolk.gov.uk/Services/19360
- Purple-lidded sharps bins
Purple-lidded sharps bins cannot be returned to pharmacies and must be collected from your home.
Please contact your District Council to arrange a collection.
- If you are unable to travel to a pharmacy
If you are unable to return your sharps bin to a pharmacy yourself, you can arrange a home collection through your District Council.
If you are unsure where to return your sharps bin or need help arranging a collection, please contact your District Council directly. Unfortunately, GP Practices are unable to assist with sharps disposal arrangements.
