We are updating our prescribing policy for HRT. This means that your HRT prescriptions will change from being 3 monthly to 28 days.
The reason we are doing this is to help avoid drug wastage and to bring our prescribing policy in line with our local Integrated Care Board’s guidance, which is that all repeat medication should be issued on a 28-day cycle.
If you pay for prescriptions, this change will not disadvantage you financially. There is a new HRT prepayment option run by the Government which means you only have to pay 2 charges for your year’s supply of medication; £19.80 for 12 months’ supply. For more information on how to apply, visit https://www.gov.uk/get-a-ppc/hrt-ppc.
We do appreciate that the collection of medication every 28 days may be less convenient for the small number of patients that have no other repeat medication to collect other than their HRT, however, it is only fair to treat all medication in the same way.
This transition will take place imminently with a view to all patients moving over to 28-day HRT prescriptions by the end of January 2025.
Thank you for your understanding.
