Screening programs

Cervical cancer screening

Everyone with a cervix aged 25 to 64 will be offered cervical screening every 5 years. Cervical screening is not a test for cancer, it’s a test to help prevent cancer. Attending regularly for cervical screening is extremely important, it checks a sample of cells from your cervix for high risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). If abnormal cells are found, they can be treated to help prevent cervical cancer.

If you have received an invitation to book your cervical screening, you can book via an online form. Your cervical screening results are usually sent to you in the NHS App or by letter.

For more information about cervical screening, or to find out what happens at your appointment please visit Cervical screening – NHS.
