Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

You need to order your medications 7 days before you want to collect them.

There are 4 ways to request a repeat prescription:

  • NHS App – The simplest and most secure way to order your repeat medication is to order online using the NHS App. (If you do not yet have the NHS App you can download the app to your phone or use the NHS website and start using it straight away. If you would like some support in using the App, please visit NHS App help and support or contact Reception through the main number and one of our NHS App champions will call you back)
  • By Hand @ the Surgeries – Hand deliver your repeat prescription to Holt or Melton Surgeries during opening hours or post them into the black post boxes outside each of these surgeries if we are closed.
  • Prescription boxes – You can post your repeat requests into the prescription boxes located at Briston Co-op or Blakeney Village Hall.
  • By Post – You can post your repeat prescription requests to the surgery

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or via email.

If you request items which are not on your repeat prescription list, you may be asked to attend an appointment to discuss this further with a healthcare professional.

Collecting your prescription

When to collect?

You need to plan to collect your medication 7 days after you ordered it.

So, order it on a Monday to collect the following Monday.

This 7-day period gives us time to process your order, the GPs to authorise and issue it, the scripts to be printed, the stock to be ordered and received in and the medication to be checked, bagged up and transported to your collection point or delivered.

Late Orders: Any orders placed after 4pm will not be processed until the next working day.

Where to Collect From?

  • Holt or Melton Surgery – Holt Medical Practice is a dispensing practice so if you live more than 1 mile by road from a community pharmacy you can collect your medications from Holt Surgery (via Kelling Pharmacy) or Melton Surgery.
  • The 24/7 Medication Collection Boxes – located at Holt Surgery or Blakeney Village Hall. These Boxes are available to both dispensing and pharmacy patients .

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time however we do kindly ask that changes are kept to a minimum as it can create room for errors or misunderstanding.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, you can:

  • Visit us in person: our pharmacists are qualified to answer queries about medication or advise on any concerns. At Holt Medical Practice we employ 2 full-time Clinical Pharmacists (one of whom is a qualified prescriber). Our wider team are also qualified to recommend over the counter medication for some acute conditions.
  • Contact us via Phone: On 01263 712 461
  • Contact us online: via our online form. Please select the “admin query form” and then set out your question in detail.
  • Look it up online: the NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions. Go to Medicines A to Z (nhs.uk)

Medication reviews

If you regularly take medication, you may need to come in for a regular review with a healthcare professional. We will let you know when (or if) these reviews are needed. If you do not attend for these reviews, we may not be able to safely reauthorise further issues of your medication.

Prescription charges

You can also find out if you are entitled to free prescriptions by visiting Check if you can get free prescriptions – NHS.

For information relating to the prescribing and continuation of private prescriptions please see our Private Prescription information leaflet (Doc).

What to do with old medicines

Take your old (no longer needed or out of date) medication to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to Kelling Pharmacy. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
